Elburn Fence Rules & Compliance

Elburn (301 E. North Street) has specific ordinances to ensure neighborhood aesthetics and safety. We manage all compliance for you:

• Height & Styling:

  • Rear & Side Yards: Maximum height of 6 feet for privacy and security.

  • Front Yards: Fences are generally not permitted in front yards, except for decorative architectural elements.

• The "Finished Side" Rule: In accordance with Village standards, the decorative side of the fence must face outward toward neighbors or the street.

• Drainage Easements: This is a top priority in Elburn. If your fence crosses an easement, we ensure it is installed to allow for the free flow of water. We coordinate with the Village Engineer when necessary to verify that your fence won't cause pooling.

• Post Depth: To protect against the high winds and heavy frost of the Elburn prairie, we sink all posts to a minimum of 36 inches.

• J.U.L.I.E. Coordination: With many new utilities being buried in Elburn’s growing neighborhoods, we prioritize precise utility marking before any digging begins.
